"Dungannon Beginnings"
In Dungannon it was the townships timber, good farmland and abundant waterpower
that attracted the first settlers in the 1850's. Mr. Robinson built the
first sawmill at L'Amable. In 1870 eleven immigrants arrived in the area
after a long tedious four-day journey from Belleville. Considerable amounts
of Bancroft marble was mined in the townships over the years.
Farming and lumbering are the two major industries of Dungannon. There
are 18 lakes and 12 streams that make for great fishing and the old logging
trails are great for snowmobiling during the winter.
